Ways to support our work

Support the work we carry out with black and minority ethnic communities across the UK to promote race equality in public services and social support.

Donate

We accept donations through Givey which has no set-up fees, no ongoing charges and no commission on donations.  This means that any money you give will go towards our work supporting black and minority ethnic communities in the UK. To make a donation, you will need to be registered with PayPal.  Please click through to our page on Givey to donate.

If you would like to:

  • make a larger donation,
  • make a donation for a specific project,
  • provide us with support as a business.

Please contact Jabeer Butt to discuss in more detail.

Fundraise

You can fundraise by using Givey. For this, you first need to sign up on the Givey website. You’ll get given a Givey Tag (#YourName) and a profile page. You can use both of these to raise money for charity, by asking your friends to:

  • Click the support button on your profile page
  • Text ‘Givey #YourGiveyTag x’ to 88008, where x = £ donation
  • Tweet ‘#Givey #YourGiveyTag x’, where x = £ donation

Leave a legacy

You can support the work of the Race Equality Foundation by leaving a legacy in your will. Previous gifts have been used to fund specific pieces of work by the Foundation, including a project to explore the intimate relationship experiences of Asian disabled women, which was funded by a bequest left by Nasa Begum.

There are two main types of gift that you can leave in your will to the Race Equality Foundation:

  • You can leave a specific sum of money (a pecuniary/specific bequest)
  • You can leave a share in, or all of, what’s left of the value of your estate after all bills have been paid and all other legacies have been distributed (a residuary gift).

If you would like to add a bequest to the Race Equality Foundation to an existing will, you can use a codicil (codicil template [181kb PDF]). Using a codicil means you don’t need to change the terms of your current will, instead you are simply adding a new instruction. Generally if the change you wish to make is quite small or simple, you can use a codicil, and if the change is more significant or complex you should make a new will. If you wish to make several changes to your will, it may be advisable to make a new will. If you have any questions, you should seek advice from a solicitor or professional adviser.  The following text can be used for as a template for your will.

For a residuary gift
I give the residue of my estate to Race Equality Foundation, Unit 17, Deane House Studios, 27 Greenwood Place, London, NW5 1LB (Registered Charity Number 1051096) for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.

For a pecuniary / specific bequest
I give the sum of £_____ (or the item specified) to Race Equality Foundation, Unit 17, Deane House Studios, 27 Greenwood Place, London, NW5 1LB (Registered Charity Number 1051096) for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.

Donate and shop at no extra cost

You can donate to the Race Equality Foundation as you shop online by registering with Give as you Live, an online shopping plugin that allows you donate to charity for free when you shop online. Give as you Live works with 3,612 online shops to donate a commission to charity on every online purchase you make. This commission is already included in the price of what you’re buying, so we can receive your donations, at no extra cost to you.

How to use Give as you Live

Firstly, you will need to register with Give as you Live, and then to select the Race Equality Foundation as the charity you wish to donate to.

You can then use Give as you Live Live in three ways:

  • by installing the Give as you Live toolbar (recommended). When visiting an online shop, the bar allows you to activate Give as you Live and start raising funds. If no bar is visible, the website does not participate in Give as you Live.
  • using their online price comparison tool to compare popular products on different websites
  • with any search engine, including Google. Enter your search term and if any online shops listed in the search results are participating in Give as you Live, a small Give as you Live button image is displayed along with the donation percentage or amount associated with the shop.

Current Campaigns

About the Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) parenting programme
SFSC is an inclusive, quality assured parenting programme which supports parents and carers to achieve positive change in their family relationships.*  The programme helps parents to understand child development and to reflect on how their own experiences can influence their parenting style.  It emphasises the importance of positive discipline techniques and encourages parents to connect with and give support to their local communities.

The cause
As the SFSC programme has increased in reach, so too has the complexity of handling the administrative and evaluation data relating to it. We are currently seeking funding for a project to integrate our SFSC website with a database.

We believe that streamlining our administrative processes will allow time and resources to be diverted towards the more practical aspects of developing, supporting and evaluating the Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme, as well as making our future work with families and communities more sustainable.

Give as you Live fundraising project
We recognise that some causes are significantly less “charismatic” than others and a database project probably tops the list!

That’s why we are seeking to raise money for the project through the online shopping plug-in, “Give as You Live”. Rather than asking our supporters and SFSC facilitators to donate money to us directly (although this is welcome too!), we are asking that you sign up to Give as you Live and select us as your favourite charity.  This way you can support our work at no extra cost to yourself.

How can you help?
We have decided to run a competition to reward the supporter who raises the most through Give as you Live by Christmas 2014.

Donate a prize
You can support our fundraising campaign by giving a small prize for the competition- perhaps a box of chocolates, perhaps a shopping voucher!  We will list the names of all donors on our competition page and will be encouraging our supporters to do their Christmas shopping through the plugin.

Gifts of any size are very welcome, as they will provide an incentive to sign up to Give as you Live and to support the campaign.

Encourage your staff to sign up to Give as you Live using our refer a friend code

Give as you Live are currently running a refer a friend offer, so if you sign up using the link below, then if you raise £5 for (any) charity, we will be given an additional £5 for ours:

Of course we’d love it if your staff could support the Race Equality Foundation’s fundraising for the SFSC programme, however, we recognise that everyone has a cause close to their heart.  If staff are able to sign up with our referral code then they can help our fundraising effort, whether or not they decide to donate directly to us (we hope so!)

Give financial or technical guidance
If you are able to provide any other technical or financial support, this would be really appreciated.  Any help you can provide will support the roll out of the Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities programme and make a huge difference to families and communities across the UK.

To donate to the campaign, please visit our Givey page or contact our SFSC programme manager, Leandra Box.
