- Struggling with sleepless nights, tantrums and naughtiness?
- Or maybe you want to prepare your child for school or nursery and are worried about how they will interact with other children?
The Strengthening Families (SF) online parenting programme is especially designed to provide support for parents of children aged 0-5 years, providing tips and support to tackle the everyday ups and downs of raising happy, healthy children. If you have struggled to attend traditional face-to-face parenting programmes due to work, study or even because you’re not really comfortable meeting a group in real life, then the online Strengthening Families course may be for you!
Based on the 13 week face to face parenting programme, Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme, the six week online programme gives a taster of some of the issues and techniques covered in the full programme. Weekly facilitated online discussions ensure that parents can cover experiential elements of the SFSC programme, and give opportunities to share the challenges and successes that they have undergone in parenting. Although targeted at parents of 0-5 year olds, the course is also suitable for children of older children and provides a number of tips and techniques which are applicable across all age groups.
What does the programme involve?
The online Strengthening Families family involves 6 sessions of self-directed learning, which you will complete on your own. Each session will take around an hour to complete and includes interactive exercises, video and audio information, and homework exercises. After you have completed the session, we will ask you to attend an online group session with other parents via the free internet technology, Skype (for parents unable to attend the online sessions, other support options may be possible, including a phone call with one of our parenting practitioners).
Is SF for me?
Yes! The Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities programme is designed to be inclusive and universal, and it’s therefore suited to most people in a parenting role. The programme has been delivered to parents, grandparents, guardians and carers from a number of backgrounds, including black and minority ethnic parents, teenaged parents, parents in the countryside, parents in the city and so on!
The programme is specially developed to allow you to reflect on your own experiences and culture and to incorporate these into your own parenting style. We will not be telling you what you should and shouldn’t do, but rather between the online sessions and the post-session support, we hope to find ways of helping you to cope with the parenting challenges you might be facing, with positive parenting tools that can be adapted to suit your family.
But I’m not techy!
Don’t worry! You don’t have to be a computer whizz kid to take part in the programme- it is designed to be intuitive and easy to follow, and our staff can support you with any problems you may have.
The self-paced learning style also means that you can take as long as you need to complete the modules, and that you can complete them at a time that suits you- whether that’s when the kids are at school or in the middle of the night!
